The boy next door. That’s what he was. Dash Frasier—my hero from the day we met, when I was six and he was nine. His sister was my best friend, the three of us one happy crew. Then one sweaty summer night changed everything.
No one understood me like Dash. No one made me feel so loved. That’s why, when he skipped town, it wrecked me.
Now I’m older. Wiser. I’ve just snagged my dream job, writing at a film studio. The lead animator on my project? You guessed it.
He’s not the boy next door. Not anymore.
I’m guarding my heart this time.
But Dash has secrets that could break us both.

My Review:
Ella James has been one of my favourite authors since her “Stained” period. I have followed her as she shifted her books’ genre because she has this talent I always look for in a book: she makes the reader become involved into the plot. The same happened with ‘THE BOY NEXT DOOR”. The characters are vivid, letting the reader feel what they feel; smile when they are happy, frown at their misfortunes, empathize when the find themselves in their darkest moments.
Ella’s book has everything: it’s romantic and sensitive; it’s scorching hot; it takes you through the age of innocent, even traumatized, childhood to the exploration of life in puberty and the final settling in the early years of adulthood. I cherished every scene, my favourite being that of the first kiss on the roof.
Thank you, Ella, for letting us finally meet that boy next door - the romance of our tender years- and answer that question bothering us since then: what if…?
