Rania reads and reviews: "My heart, his soul" by Loraine Lotter

My heart, his soul (Heart and soul)Review

“My heart, his soul”

By Loraine Lotter

“My heart, his soul” is a very unique story in the genre of fantasy and romance. The heroine, a typical, rebellious teenager who goes through the phase of contradicting her parents and looking up to her friends instead, depicts every girl’s anxieties as she evolves into becoming a woman. What better way is there to mature her but love? A love with the supernatural, the perfect inner element in a human being; the soul of a man.

Lorainne addresses not only teenagers who will definitely empathize with Abi as she struggles to find her way in life, but also those who are keen on romance at the innocent age of the first heartbeats. Above all, this story meets, if not exceeds the expectations of the lovers of the fantasy and supernatural genres, with its innovative subject and a plot that makes the book a page-turner.

This week's song! Breathe in me.

W.A.S.P Breathe Lyrics:

You don¹t have to hear my heart beat

All you need is to look into my eyes

All tell me, I¹m the one your heart needs

I¹m the only one you run to in the night

Oh- let me, burn the words forever mine

Across your heart, across your mind

Take your hands and feel my heart beat

Come and let me feel it in your eyes

All you have to do is touch me

Oh - And lay your flame across my fire

[ Find more Lyrics on http://mp3lyrics.org/TMhU ]

Oh - Let me spread your wings and come inside

And take your heart and make you mine

Come and lay down your heart on me

All that I wanna feel is

Breathe in me

Lay down your heart on me

Feel you inside of me

Breathe on me

Come and take me on, take me down

Oh, take me all, all the way

There¹s only one way

Only one thing I need, all I need

Take me way down

Come and lay down on me

Lyrics: Breathe, W.A.S.P

I miss you all!

Moving out is not a decision to take lightly. Here I am, in a new country, new house, new job but my mind is still on my friends, my family, my students, my collegues and especially my dogs Lack and Lulu.
I  miss you all!

"Gripping and fast-paced, Immortalis Carpe Noctem is a riveting read. In it, author Katie Salidas presents an action-packed tale of a mythical dark underworld that stands out from the garden variety vampire lore currently dominating the rank and file of pop culture. - Apex Reviews"

Welcome to Urania's distractions, Katie. Tell us a few things about you. Who is Katie Salidas?
I’m really just your average every day person. I have a beautiful daughter and a loving husband. They both are very supportive to me in my writing. My daughter loves to tell her friends that “Mommy writes big books.”
When did you discover you have a talent for writing?
I’ve always love to write. Even since I was a little girl. I have stacks of notebooks piled in my garage. Snippets of writing that I’ve done over the years. It’s been a nice escape for me. I like to let myself fall into new stories and really get to know the characters.
What obstacles did you have to overcome in this process?
There is a lot to learn, writing a novel. Making up a story is just a small part of it. There are so many rules out there that dictate the form, grammar, and structure of a story to make it commercially acceptable. One of my favorite parts is the critting process. I love to share my work with a critting group and hear their comments as well as have the ability to do the same. So much can be learned at this stage and you find that after you are done, your story really shines.
You write for a very special genre with many fans, especially in the teen world. Why do you think vampire stories appeal to so many people?
Vampries have been around forever. In book form, since at least the 1800’s with the famous Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Vampires are a character that really intrigue people. They are dark, mysterious, powerful, and sexy. They really draw you in. They are characters that have really become immortal through all of the reinventions and adaptations. I think they will be around in some form forever.
What inspires you Katie?
I’m inspired by asking questions. I like to dig deep and come up with answers and that is what helps me create my stories. In Immortalis Carpe Noctem, I really wanted to focus on the transformation. I wanted to know what it is like to turn. Asking questions about what each step would be helped shape the story.
Do you follow a specific procedure when you write?
Not initially. I free write and let the story tell me where it wants to go. Once the first draft is finished, then I do follow the rules. I work with critiquing groups. I read books on grammar and punctuation and try to pre-edit my work to match industry standards.
Who are the authors you admire?
Oh I love so many. My top three are Patricia Briggs, Anne Rice, and Sherrlyn Kenyon.
Your blog is very helpful to writers, especially the upcoming ones. What is the most important tip you can give them?
Just write your story down. Don’t focus on rules and what others will think. That stuff can be saved once the first draft is complete. Let yourself enjoy the process of writing first.
What do you think about self-publishing?
Self-Publishing is not for the faint of heart. It is a lot of work to do right. But it can be done well. And when you self-publish you must make 100% effort to market the book. It’s definitely worth it though, to see your baby bound and printed.
Tell us about you latest book.
Immortalis Carpe Noctem
Bleeding to death after brutal mugging on the campus of UNLV, Twenty-five year old Alyssa, is rescued by the cold and aloof, vampire, Lysander. Taking pity on her, he shares the gift-and curse-of immortality. She awakens as a vampire and is soon devastated by harsh realities of her new way of life: the loss of her friends, her independence, and her humanity.
As if having her humanity stripped away wasn't enough to make life interesting, Alyssa finds out her Turning, did not go unnoticed by the rest of undead society. Old enemies; an ancient sect of vampire hunters, known as the Acta Sanctorum, as well as a powerful Vampire mistress, each set plans in motion to destroy both Alyssa and Lysander.
Only by accepting her new-found immortality and seizing the night, will Alyssa hope to survive. She and Lysander will have to fight together against two sets of enemies bent on destroying them.
Thank you Katie. The best of luck to all your books!
Thank you too!!! It’s been a pleasure chatting with you today.

This week's song. Don't you just love it? It's been a great inspiration for my book, Gate Deadlock.

Belated wishes to myself. A birthday review.

May 25th. Rania's birthday.
Wishes from my beloved ones: the first one came from my youngest son early in the morning, right after I woke him up for school.
Then my sister's wishes came through a cell phone message a little after 11.00a. m. She never forgets. Her birthday is on the 26th, so I never forget hers either.
The next was from my older son, with a beautiful bunch of flowers he'd collected from his grandma's garden. (Thank God she didn't see didn't catch him redhanded!) and a couple of songs he played on his guitar for me. That was something! No wishes from my sweetheart; he was away.Only a short conversation on the phone.
My older sister came over in the evening. She brought my mother too, who had forgotten about it for the first time in my life. Anyway, my sisters, my sons and I celebrated with a pizza-bithday cake (two mouthwatering pizzas instead of a cake. I'd missed pizza so much!) and red wine.
Presents: none on that day, except from my son's flowers. Three days later, I received a bautiful pot with a pink hortansia sent by my mother. I asked my sisters for the Muse latest CD anyway.
A big surprise: The number of wishes from my facebook, inkwell and myspace friends.Thank you all! I value every single word!
Bottom line: it was the first time I didn't give myself a birthday present. I aways use to do a little something for me on that day. A beauty treatment, a new handbag, a new book. But this time I've been preety preoccupied with other things. Things that are going on and I can't control. Things that affect my life. Things that left me wonder how I have let them into my life. It's been a hard month for me.   I should at least wish my self. Better late than never.

This week's song. (dedicated to those of us who one day realise we've smothered the most important people in our lives just because we love them too much).

Mother, do you think they'll drop the bomb?

Mother, do you think they'll like this song?

Mother, do you think they'll try to break my balls?

Mother, should I build the wall?

Mother, should I run for President?

Mother, should I trust the government?

Mother, will they put me in the firing line?

Is it just a waste of time?

Hush now baby, baby, don't you cry

Momma's gonna make all of your nightmares come true

Momma's gonna put all of her fears into you

Momma's gonna keep you right here under her wing

She won't let you fly, but she might let you sing

Momma's will keep Baby cozy and warm

Oooo Babe

Oooo Babe

Ooo Babe, of course Momma's gonna help build the wall

Mother, do you think she's good enough

For me?

Mother, do you think she's dangerous

To me?

Mother will she tear your little boy apart?

Mother, will she break my heart?

Hush now baby, baby, don't you cry

Momma's gonna check out all your girlfriends for you

Momma won't let anyone dirty get through

Momma's gonna wait up until you get in

Momma will always find out where you've been

Momma's gonna keep Baby healthy and clean

Oooo Babe

Oooo Babe

Ooo Babe, you'll always be Baby to me

Mother, did it need to be so high?

How do bilingual writers express themselves better?

Those of you who've met me or have read my bio details  know I'm Greek. You must also know I'm a Greek teacher of English. After twenty years of teaching, even more years of speaking and reading English literature and reference books (thanks to my ongoing postgraduate studies) I have become bilingual.
The most important thing is I think in English. My inner voice is English, not Greek. Pointing this out does not imply in any way that I disdain my native language; quite the contrary. But my tendency to select English is a fact I cannot ignore.
In the past I tried to write my stories in Greek. The ideas were there, the story was flowing in my mind, but when my pen touched the paper there was an odd block. I couldn't understand why I wasn't satisfied with the Greek words I read, why it wasn't the same with what I had in mind. That was no self-expression.It gave me no pleasure.
Two years ago I decided to write in English and...a miracle happened. I couldn't stop myself. I relished every page, every word. It's not easy because no matter how good you are in the second language it is hardly possible to use it like native speakers do. That's why I spent months editing my first book (and still I'm insecure about the errors you may find in it). But the bottom line is I wrote an English book I'm really excited about and  not only am I working on the sequel but my notebook is full of notes on two other books I have in mind. Really I have to find an editor next time, but it's okay.
