EXCERPT
Seduction
On Sunday, I didn’t see Christopher at all as he had been supervising
the excavation all day. Besides, I was hiding among the insulating walls of my
little house, searching frantically within my dad’s archives in the hopes that
I would find the desirable clues that would enable me to put an end to the
absurdity I had been going through.
When it got dark, I felt the need for some fresh air. The night was
bright, as a huge, orange moon had just ascended the dark mountain slopes
toward the starry sky. I opened the door and walked toward the circular garden
to which all eight little houses had access. The first blood-red buds on the
rosebushes had started to blossom, leaving a faint odour of freshness in the
air. The garden promised a culmination of color as the ground, replete with water, had all the bushes and flowers ready to
burst into life; I thought of the imminent outbreak of odor and color. Would I still be around?
“Feeling restless?”
Christopher’s voice sounded wary, coming from a bench to my left, giving me a
start. The anger I felt for him the previous night still hadn’t worn off. My
first thought was to find an excuse and go back into my house, but then
something stopped me. Something more powerful than my instincts of
self-preservation.
“It’s a beautiful night,” I
said, trying to hide the tremor in my voice. This was one of the very few
moments I’d been alone with him since he’d brought me back to Pylos. I still
hadn’t gotten used to the distance he had brought between us. I would never get
used to it.
“It makes your heart cry,
doesn’t it?” he whispered, gazing at the full moon.
“It’s so bright …” I mumbled,
looking for words to finish my statement, startled by the unexpected revelation
of his thoughts.
“Ahh, don’t let it deceive
you. ‘The moon’s an arrant thief, and her pale fire she snatches from the
sun’.”
“Shakespeare? Wow!” I mocked.
My mind went back on track; romantic mood subsiding, resentment taking over.
Silence was the response. But I persisted.
“I’ve always wondered about
that other side, the dark one.”
Still no response. I presumed he
was processing my point, wondering about the hint in it.
“I guess there’s always a
dark side to everything, no matter the beauty of it.” Bitterness exposed my
intentions as evidently as the full moon above us. I was certain he had grasped the challenge, but the lack of any kind
of reaction from his part disappointed me. Christopher kept gazing at
the moon, lost in his own thoughts.
Overwhelmed by the sudden fear he might just give up and leave instead
of responding to my childish challenge, I made an effort to hold back. What was
I doing spoiling the magic of the moment? How many nights had I dreamt of
moments like this? And there I was, being grumpy again!
I changed my tune and ignored the growing signs of the looming fit of
anger inside me, threatening to break out.
“When I was a little girl, I
used to look at the moon through a telescope my dad had bought for me. I was
sure I could make out streets on it. I never realized how far it was and I
would always ask my dad if we could fly there by plane, like the astronauts had
done.”
“It’ll just take a little more
time,” he whispered, startling me.
My eyes scanned his loveable face. “That’s funny. That’s exactly what my
dad used to say.”
Christopher didn’t say anything for a few minutes. He didn’t move at
all, lost in his thoughts, enchanted by the huge, red moon that was staring at
us in full splendour, dominating the sky, captivating the eyes, the thoughts,
the soul.
It didn’t take long for me to finally realize I was able to contain my
anger. My father’s memory always had a calming effect on me. Besides, my love
for Christopher still surmounted any other feeling.
For one brief moment, I felt our souls uniting, as we inevitably
succumbed to the catalytic lunar spell, as if it would lull our tormented
hearts. My eyes turned to him again. He was so close lying on that bench, only
a few steps separating us physically. But the real distance between us was
vast.
“What’s going on inside your
beautiful, little head?" he asked, his eyes still fixed to the sky. Still,
his voice was so wrong; the voice of a stranger.
“My thoughts have never been
too hard to guess. Usually, I’m an open book.”
“Not to me,” his cold voice
remarked. I wasn’t sure if it was his tone or his words that evoked a new wave
of anger inside me.
“Okay then. I’ll enlighten you.
I was thinking what perplexing character you are. I wonder how frustrating it
must feel to lead such a contradictory life.”
“Define contradictory,” he
said guardedly.
“You are a romantic dreamer
who enjoys the full moon today and a tough League servant the next morning.” I
was determined not to mention anything related to our previous affair.
“The one does not exclude the
other,” he said calmly.
“No, of course not. Not if
you’re suffering from split personality disorder.” I had started to sound
bitter. Again.
“Is that how you think of me?
That I’m suffering from some…mental disease?” He turned his head to look at me
with a fake, broad smile.
“I’m starting to think there
must be something in the air you breathe back there or in the food you eat that
brainwashes you and makes it easier for the League to manipulate you.”
He chuckled. “You’ve always had a very vivid imagination.”
“Really? How else would you be
capable of all this?”
“What do you mean? I’m capable of a lot of things.” He sounded
guarded again.
I didn’t even think before going
on to say what had been torturing me ever since Denzel had presented me with
his farewell gift. The video of Christopher–different hair, unshaved
face–shooting a dozen unarmed men and women, even a child, and enjoying it. It
was Denzel’s last effort to dissuade me from demanding Christopher’s return to
my world. To think that he was trying to warn me or to protect me would be an
overstatement. It was foreseeable that sooner or later I would mention that gift to Christopher. What I never
expected was that I would do it in a conscious effort to hurt him.
“Christopher, I know. I’ve seen the video. I’ve seen you. Denzel showed me.”
Although he didn’t move at all, I felt how alarmed he was since his body
had become instantly tense under the disguise of a cool attitude.
“And what exactly did he show
you?”
It was too late to stop now. The only way to get over this was to tell
the truth.
“You. In that building with
all those poor people. You had longer hair and a beard, but I recognized you.
How could you kill all those people, Christopher? That was not collateral
damage. It seemed like pure delight for you.”
“How can you be so sure it
was me?”
“I saw your face. Denzel
thought it was a fitting goodbye present. He wanted to threaten me, I guess, so
as not to disobey him. Or maybe he wanted to warn me.”
“Warn you about me,” he said
in a voice that revealed how much I had hurt him.
He sat up abruptly. “I’m sorry you had to see that.”
“Is that all you have to
say?”
He stood up and looked at me with his arresting face, but his true
emotions were concealed behind the most nonchalant expression.
“What else do you expect me
to say? You’ve already condemned me, denying me the benefit of the doubt, so
what’s the use of trying to justify my actions? Again, I’m truly sorry.” His
voice was cold and detached again.
“No, Christopher. I’m sorry. I’m sorry for you. For ending up like this. For
losing hope and faith in what brought you to me in the first place. For giving
up on everything that made you so special.”
He shrugged. “What can I say? Guilty as charged.” He put his hands in
his pockets and turned away. “One more reason for you to stay away from me.”
That’s it? I thought. No shouting? No effort to defend himself?
He walked towards his house. His
stumping didn’t escape my notice. Underneath his nonchalant composure I knew my
arrows had reached their target this time. I knew I had hurt him and that made
me feel awful.
It had brought another sleepless night full of torment. And it was my
fault.

Free read: one of my favorite Beguiled scenes.
I really want to share this scene with you my distracted readers!
It's one of my favorite Beguiled scenes. Read along and let me know your thoughts! Oh, I've added a couple of images so that you can have a glimpse...
The
knock on the door made my heart pump fast. I got up and looked at my face in
the mirror. Awful image. Red eyes and dark circles underneath. I quickly fixed
my hair in a sloppy bun but there was no time to change the bathrobe I was
still in.
“Emma? Can I come in?” That voice. The
voice I adored.
“Come in,” I said, biting my lip.
Christopher looked tired too. It was obvious that he hadn’t slept either. He
was holding his cell phone.
“They’ve just called. In about two minutes
they’ll call back. You’ll be able to talk to your boyfriend.”
“Stop calling him my boyfriend.”
“Right. I meant your…friend,” he mocked.
“Did you get anything out of them? Did
they say where they’re keeping him?”
“No. I’m sorry. It’s obvious that they
still don’t trust me.”
“Why don’t they? You’re one of them now,
aren’t you?” I was deliberately trying to hurt him, but he didn’t seem to take
the hint.
“You’re absolutely right. I am one of
them. Maybe I’ve always been one of them.” And just like that, he’d turned the
bow toward me. The arrow hit its target, aiming straight at my heart.
“Hmmm.” He looked around. “It looks exactly
the same. I’m surprised you haven’t changed anything,” he remarked.
What
was I supposed to say? That I’d been waiting for him to come back and that I
didn’t want anything changed because it all reminded me of him? I preferred to
let him think exactly the opposite.
“I’ve only been here a couple of times. I
never thought about changing anything. I’ll probably sell the place.” I’d never
thought about selling our house, of course, but now it occurred to me that I
should put an ad about it as soon as this doomed-to-fail mission would be over.
“That will be a very wise thing to do.” His
face remained annoyingly unreadable.
“Won’t you come inside?” I challenged him.
“Sure. Why not?”
Christopher
walked into the room with stealthy, cat-like movements. He lay on the huge bed,
his palms supporting the back of his head; a sight for sore eyes to every
woman. In another world, I would have thrown myself at him and covered him with
kisses.
With
a leisurely air, he fixed the pillows behind his head and gazed at me.
In
an act of senseless bravery, I sat on the other edge of the bed. “How… How does
it feel?” I asked.
“What do you mean?”
“How does it feel to be here? To be back.”
Back with me, I wanted to say.
He
smiled, but the smile did not reach his eyes. “What do you want to hear? That
I’ve missed this place, this house, this…bed?”
“Have you?”
“You know the answer to that, don’t you?
Trained assassins do not become attached to places or people. We cannot afford
to be.” He closed his eyes. “But I have to admit, I’ve always liked this bed.
Especially after having spent the last three hours lying on the sofa.”
So
that was his only emotion about being here. The comfortable bed. So uninspired,
so unromantic.
Then
he looked at me through his half-open eyes. “But you know this, don’t you? I’m
sure you and your boyfriend make the most of this bed when you meet here.”
“What are you trying to prove?”
“To prove? It’s just pure biology. Don’t
tell me I still shock you! As far as I remember, you’ve overcome that stage.”
I
felt my cheeks burn. I had an intense urge to slap him.
“There’s no need to be so cynical,” I said
instead. Suddenly, thinking of Alex made
me want to laugh. What would he say if he heard Christopher talk this way,
considering my silly fixation on keeping myself pure “until the prince came
back” as he used to tease me?
His
mobile vibrated next to him and he took his time to answer it, ignoring the
twitch I couldn’t hide.
“Yes?” he said. Then he passed me the
phone without saying anything, his eyes more blank than ever.
“Alex?” My voice trembled.

Free read: a steamy scene from Beguiled, paranormal,time-travel romance!
This is my thank you gift to all the readers of Urania's Distractions! Enjoy!
I made a full tray of crepes with Mateo’s
“special” filling and carried it to my partners’ house. The smell was quite
inviting and my appetite had now grown even more. I used my elbow to open the
door. But when I got inside, Mateo was nowhere in the living room.
“Your
order is delivered, sir!” I shouted, heading towards the kitchen.
“Mateo?”
I raised my voice. No response. “He’s gone?” I whispered to myself, putting the
tray on the table, disappointed.
“But
I’m here,” a mocking voice said
behind me, waking up the butterflies in my empty stomach; a long-lost,
cherished feeling.
I turned with a start. Christopher was standing
behind me, wearing only his jeans as he leaned his bare shoulder on the cold
wall. How had I missed his car outside?
“Oh!”
I flinched. “I thought Mateo …”
He walked toward me, stopping about a foot away,
his bare chest too close. His smell dazzled me the same way as it used to last
summer, a lifetime ago. When we weren’t worlds apart.
I tried to hold my breath.
“Did
I disappoint you?” His eyes were burning mine, making them lock on his.
“Don’t be silly.” I tried to sound convincing.
“Then what? Did I frighten you?” He moved his body toward me, towering
above me, making me feel too small.
I stepped back and felt the kitchen table
behind me. “I think I should go.”
“I
think you should. Coward,” he mocked. But he stood there, still menacing and so
unearthly attractive.
We both knew the only escape was right behind
him, but there was no sign that he intended to let me go. There was something
in his look that scared me. Something dark and intimidating. Something baleful.
Please don’t touch me! I thought. I knew if he touched me I would be easy
prey in his hands. Yet, at the same time, I desperately hoped he would reach
out.
And he did. His warm finger caressed my face,
moving along the line of my jaw then tracing the outline of my lips.
“You
have confused me, Emma. I thought you were a composed, bashful girl. And I find
you ready to throw yourself at men, just like this. Are you aiming at Mateo
now? I’d never guess he’s your type. And don’t say I’ve corrupted you.” His
velvet, alluring voice was drifting me toward a dangerous path. A path I knew
well.
“That’s…sick.
I…I don’t like you when you talk like this.” That was the best I could come up
with to say.
“Are
you afraid of me now?” His lips brushed my cheek.
“Should I be afraid of you?”
“Definitely.
You know what I’m capable of. You’ve seen it, isn’t that right?” He whispered,
his lips brushing mine.
Yes, I’d seen. But I had chosen to hide this
side of him in a dark corner of my mind, a safe distance from my heart.
“But
I’m not going to do anything you don’t want me to. That was the reason you
brought me here after all, wasn’t it?”
I was floating. His voice was mesmerizing, his
smell the most potent drug, his body the ultimate challenge. His hands found
mine and he pushed them behind my waist, locking them with his left hand,
holding them still. His right hand was free to touch me anywhere he wished.
“I
know your tricks, remember?” I whispered in a faint voice.
“You
have no idea.” His breath felt hot behind my ear. “It will be like nothing
we’ve done before. You must have realized how different I am this time.”
I shivered when his body pressed against mine.
Then I heard him chuckle.
“What’s
wrong, Emma? Doesn’t your boyfriend satisfy you? Do you want to make love to a
dangerous killer like me? That’s risky you know. You may discover you can’t go
back to your boyfriend after that.”
“Christopher!
Stop! Why are you doing this?” My unconvincing tone made me sound pitiful.
“I’m
not going to stop. You don’t want me to stop. That’s why you’re here.”
He unbuttoned my shirt. His scorching hand carved
hot paths on my shivering body. I didn’t have time to react when his kiss
blocked my voice, sending me away. Further than the time travel I had taken a
few days ago. I was floating again. I knew my feet were no longer touching the
ground. Christopher had carried me to his bed and when he moved to unzip my
jeans, I realized it was too late. His hot breath on my breasts felt familiar.
Everything about his touch was familiar. Only those cold blue eyes and the
baleful grin belonged to a stranger. But I didn’t have to look into them. I
could keep my eyes shut and pretend he was my Christopher again.
It took me a few seconds to realize he had
stopped. I was still in another dimension when I saw his broad grin just a few
inches away from my face.
“When
you’ve finished, come back to the kitchen. I can’t eat all those crepes by
myself.” Mateo’s calm voice said from the door behind Christopher, sounding
like nothing had happened.
“Saved by the bell.” Christopher whispered, buttoning my shirt again. I
covered my face with my hands. He got up and put on his jumper before walking
to the door. He stopped and turned, his cold eyes staring at me.
“You
have to stay away from me. Next time, nobody will come to your rescue.”
I hope I got you distracted with this!
There's more coming so drop by soon!

Soo excited with this 5-star review on Beguiled!!!
Lydia rated it 5 of 5 stars
* SPOILER ALERT*
So i was curious to see what would happen next and i was amazed! I loved this book! I couldn't stop reading because in every page there was a twist in the plot which brought excitement all over again!
The emotions were great!!And it became one of my favorite love stories! I really liked the way Christopher was so mysterious but all for a good cause and how it did not get boring with a simple plot. The narrative for one more time was excellent as were the settings in the story. A new character appears Mateo who is totally likeable although you are fooled at the beginning that he is not with the good guys. The ending was perfect!! And i really liked how Alex was not left alone because i really liked his character. I do love happy endings! All in all i loved it and i would read it again with same excitement!
Excellent work!It's a must-read!

Beguiled has received another great review on Goodreads!
Hey guys!I need to share my happiness with you as the circle of Christopher and Emma's fans is growing. Read Anna's review here https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/750599927 or just scroll down.
Recommended for: lovers of fantasy, time traveling, and well writen female characters
The second part of the Gate Deadlock series starts very nicely! Without the whole need to explain a backstory it is fast paced and keeps you reading, and ready to get answers left by the previous book. I will assume for everyone reading this review that you have read the first book of the series; if not, do it. Our dear heroine decides to take fate on her own hands, gets stubborn, and though admitedly I have wanted to slap her at some points, that just shows how she is a well rounded and evolving character. She is on a mission and she will not back down until she gets answers... and her man back. A plot that keeps thickening until its final resolution( and how nicely handled that was). And honesty this is a universe that coud have easiy been expanded and been written into a trilogy!I must say that The Gate deadlock and Beguiled stand just fine among other fantasy books, and is a great reading for every lover of adventures!
Many thanks to Urania for provoding a pdf in exchange for an honest review!

"An unfortunate twist of fate". We‘re walking different paths in life. Paths which should never cross"
Such an over-whelming experience. A mixture of forbidden love and time-travel'
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review and WOW, such a really nice and warm read. A big massive thanks Urania for giving me this opportunity to read such a wonderful book of yours. Enjoyed every moment of it. From the very first page I was totally thrown into another world, I just found it so hard putting it down and I know this memory will stay with me for an extremely long time.
He has come back to her because hes on a mission, but what is the mission exactly? Why is he holding back on her? Whose that man who looks like him if they are not related? Why does he want him so much? What really did happen to her father?
I really felt as tho I was Emma, and WOW, how much I adored Christopher so much. I was so involved with him, could feel for him entirely..I think I fell in love with this bloke that Emma was forbidden to have and deep down, I knew he loved her also even tho he was trying his hardest to conceal his feelings. I was crying with this, very very emotional. But, in all honesty and quite often I wanted to scream at both Emma and Christopher because of all the love that they were trying to hide from each other.
A big massive thanks once again Urania and I would be honoured n reading mire from you.

5-star review for Beguiled!
Hello my romantically distracted readers!
Want to know what made me jump up and down early this morning? The five stars that Emma and Christopher's story earned ! So here's the link if you want to share my excitement while I do my victory dance here!http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/673997131?utm_content=like&utm_medium=email&utm_source=friend_updates
And here's exactly what Sophia Lazaridou wrote!
"I will make this short and quick. I have been trying to form my thoughts about the book into words but nothing is coming. I was afraid to read it because Christopher was acting so cold that would have my heart broken if it wasn't for some tiny point of views from Christopher's side. The story continues from where the first book ended, with our heroes trying to find the gate. I loved both books for different reasons but the best end is the one on Beguiled. I swear if the author hadn't given us some hints I would have thrown my ereader at the wall and curl up into a ball and not speak to anyone for a while. I can't explain it but I had strong feelings about Christopher. I am glad Emma fought and didn't stay behind accepting everything."
Beguiled needs your reviews more than ever while it is trying to reach its audience. If you have read it post your review on your blog, Goodreads or Amazon. If you haven't send me a message and I can send you a free pdf/mobi copy for an honest review.
Keep being distracted by reading,

I swear if the author hadn't given us some hints I would have thrown my ereader at the wall and curl up into a ball and not speak to anyone for a while. I can't explain it but I had strong feelings about Christopher. I am glad Emma fought and didn't stay behind accepting everything."
Beguiled needs your reviews more than ever while it is trying to reach its audience. If you have read it post your review on your blog, Goodreads or Amazon. If you haven't send me a message and I can send you a free pdf/mobi copy for an honest review.

My last Beguiled blog tour stop: Sitting on the Porch, Visiting with Lynn Donovan
Good morning distracted book lovers!
Yesterday Beguiled made a visit to Lynn Donovan we had a nice talk... She asked me about the following: Are my characters truly fictional, or are they based on someone I know? Will there be a sequel? How do I find time to write with the demands of a family and teacher? How awesome is it to live in Greece? Read all about it on:
http://sittingontheporchwithlynn.blogspot.gr/2013/07/juniper-grove-book-solutions-book-tour.html
The tour stops here but the giveaway will be on for a couple of days more. There's still time to earn more entries.
Thank you all: organizers of Juniper Grove, blogggers who hosted Beguiled and their followers and also readers for reading my Beguiled posts, sharing and taking part in the giveaway.
There are more Beguiled events on the way, so stand by :)
